Cool Labs Liquid Pro & MetalPad Review
From Cool Laboratories these products came to me for review and soak testing (or burn-in testing) and i was actually quite surprised when looking up the compound, to find that it/they are made entirely of metal. That is to say it is a metal alloy and does not contain any silicon as other thermal pastes do. Ok so to most that wont mean much, but the short and simple part is, no silicon, less toxic, more metal (the right metal at least) the better its thermal properties will be. And considering its cheap price, frankly it looks like a bargain. More on that later.
On with the technical details of it all. The compound is that of Copper (duh), Bismuth, and Indium. The Indium is the low melting point metal which when added to other metals is intended to soften them and alter thermal properties. Bismuth it seems is the middle man in the metals. Its been introduced in past years to replace Lead as a non-toxic option for suspending other chemicals in, an example being cosmetics. The copper obviously is used for its thermal properties too. Indium is the silver coloured metal which makes the stuff look like liquid silver. The Bismuth is what changes the compounds colour to pinks and so on. Indium as relatively rare but is a bi-product of mining zinc so its relatively easy to come by, hence the nice price.
