AMDs New Babies May 17, 2007 - Sheri Bloor - Permalink

AMD Quad-Core Opteron Socket F (1207)
Coming soon to a desktop near you AMD's Next-Generation true quad-core Phenom™ processor. AMD unveiled and publicly demonstrated the first all-AMD enthusiast platform code named "FASN8", pronounced "fascinate" on Monday.

Phenom processors promise to be more energy efficient. All AMD Phenom processors will feature resources like an integrated DDR2 memory controller, HyperTransport™ technology links, and 128-bit Floating Point Units, for improved speed and performance in floating point calculations.

AMD did not release the specifications or features of the new chip, and many experts are withholding judgement until they see some testing. But with more demand for high quality visuals as people use theirPCs for viewing movies, Youtube, and other digital entertainment, the time is right for an improved chip like this.

The new AMD Phenom processor which is due out in the second half of 2007 paired with the new DirectX 10 ATI Radeon ™ HD 2000 series, which began shipping on Monday is promised to bring the ultimate visual experience to everyone who uses it.

It will be interesting to see if the software can live up to this processors power. Δ
