AMD Steps Up Stepping Release Feb 13, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

AMD Phenom FX 64 Logo
AMD is apparently preparing to release the new B3 stepping (version 3) of its Phenom processors as early as April this year. Peeps close to the company say its planning to dish out these new chips around April time this year to fix the Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) bug in the microprocessor.

The TLB bug caused problems on the current B2 stepping of the processors. AMD issued a software patch to fix the problem but with a severe performance hit. The B3 stepping is expected to clear this all up and was originally expected months later after the original Q1 date slipped.

Expect to see these AMD Phenom processor models 9550 (2.20GHz), 9650 (2.30GHz) and 9750 (2.40GHz) in the coming weeks. Δ
