Yahoo! Logo
Microsoft has launched a surprise bid for Yahoo! after noticing the recent indications of yahoo's struggle to in the fight against Google and even Microsoft itself for the finite revenues available from the advertising market online and off.

Yahoo! recently noted the likelihood it would have to cut 1,000 of its current 14,300 strong workforce. Microsoft, not one to mix words in the business world is taking the plunge fast and heavy with this chunky takeover bid. Bear in mind we're...

EA Makes FPS C&C GG WP OMG Jan 31, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

Tiberium HD Trailer Screen Capture
EA Games is showing off a little trailer of the new FPS (First person shooter) they're made of the Command and Conquer series of games.
The game trailer looks pretty darn neat and very sci-fi as the game is based in a grim, warring future where life revolves entirely around Tiberium, a crystal/element which has value and power everyone desires and needs.
The cinematics in the trailer certainly show potential but as we all know the actual game seldom looks like the cinematic intro. Still...

Futuremark Teases With Images Of Vantage Jan 31, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

3DMark Vantage - Work in Progress
Today Futuremark has released a few images of the latest 3DMark named Vantage. Judging by the images this will prove to be a very complex and detailed 3DMark to carry on the tradition.
This new 3DMark is of course built for the DirectX 10 (and 10.1) era which has brought in both more powerful graphics cards and improved capabilities as well as optimization features to improve performance.
As always this benchmark will test each aspect to the max, stressing both the graphics card and the...

The update scheduled for yesterday is officially delayed for one to two weeks says Apple. The update which completely changes the AppleTV interface as well as adding movie (regular and HD) rental facilities was expected to be released to all current and new AppleTV's yesterday in a move Apple claims is 'home video done right'.

Dell Mall Kiosk
Dell is officially closing all of its 140 US mall kiosks citing the companies moves into big-box store sales rather than kiosk sales. Kiosks outside of the US are not to be included in this blanket closing but no word on how long that will last. Dell is clearly adjusting its retail strategy here so there may be more changes to come.

One of the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboards by Art Lebedev has hit the pages of Ebay today (link at end of article) with a current price of $2,000. You may think the price steep but these things are rare as hens teeth and just about the most desirable computer accessory ever.

Notebook SLI Gaming Rigs Powered By nVidia Jan 30, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

Dell XPS m1730 with nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX or dual GeForce 8700M GT
nVidia has turned out a notebook graphics solution with two of the new 8000 series GPU's in SLI, not only that but its a lower power notebook solution, but don't let that fool you, it'll chew up that battery like it were a little snack bar.
With a pair of SLI enabled 8800M GTX's in a notebook however, they're boasting capability of playing Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3 along with all the usual DirectX 9 lineup.
One extra little feature which is quite neat is a 100% hardware acceleration of...

Apple iPhone SDK Key leaked? Jan 29, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

Apple iPhone
Word has it around the 'net that the SDK Key for the iPhone/iTunes has been leaked onto the vast interweb. This key enables signing of 3rd party (read: hax'd) applications and content for use on the iPhone and iTunes, not requiring Apples blessing.

Now, take this with a pinch of salt because until its demonstrated to actually you know, be useful, I would just hang in there and wait to see how this turns out.

Futuremark To Make Game Jan 29, 2008 - Carl Bloor - Permalink

Futuremark Logo
Longtime respected developers of 3D and general computing benchmarks, Futuremark is apparently gearing up to make a fully fledged game.
Fans of the benchmarks 3DMark and PCMark have been salivating and not-so-subtly hinting for years that the company (previously MadOnion) do a complete game.
Futuremark has been knocking out the most popular 3D benchmark (3DMark) for years and has even made some aspects of the benchmarks into mini-games but this will be the first time the company has done...
